Portis Master's Edition
For the captain who owns the wheel

When the boat is yours, the bridge should be too.

Portis Master's Edition is the captain's bridge — live water levels, port lookup, bridge clearances, Notices to Mariners, captain's log, and private port notes — for sailors running their own vessels. No company tenant. No procurement department. Just your boat, your routes, your data.

01 / The difference

Same Portis. Yours alone.

Captains running for a fleet get the same bridge through their company's account. Master's Edition is for the rest — owner-operators, charter masters, captains between contracts.

Company-issued

Captain's account · provisioned by employer
  • Vessel + voyage data shared with your fleet ops team
  • Roster and rotation set at the company level
  • Logs and reports route to operations and compliance
  • Access ends when the contract ends

Master's Edition

Yours · paid out of pocket · stays with you
  • Your data, your account. Voyage history follows you, vessel to vessel
  • Bring-your-own vessel. Add owned, leased or chartered boats yourself
  • Personal logbook. 30-year captain's log, exportable, audit-ready
02 / What's included

The bridge, what's live today.

Eight tools that are live right now in every Master's Edition account. No add-ons, no per-vessel surcharges. More is coming — early captains help shape what's next.

01

Port lookup

156 Great Lakes & St. Lawrence Seaway ports with facility records, entry notes, bridge clearances, regulations, and sourced contacts — and growing every season. Search by name, region, or cargo type.

02

Bridge & clearance data

Air-draft calculations live against your vessel's keel-to-masthead height and current water level. Moveable bridges report open clearance when known. 86+ records across 15+ port systems.

03

Live water levels

NOAA on the US side, Environment and Climate Change Canada on the Canadian side — current readings and forecasts, charted against IGLD 85 datum.

04

Notices to Mariners

USCG and Canadian Coast Guard live feeds, proximity-filtered to the ports on your route. Links back to the original notice every time.

05

Captain's log

Per-voyage entries that pre-fill from voyage state. Export to PDF or CSV, timestamps signed, retained for the life of your account.

06

Captain's port notes

Your own living guide per port and facility — entry procedures, berth conditions, contacts, draft observations, dated visit history. Photo capture with pen, text, and arrow annotation.

07

Multi-vessel management

Enter every ship you sail — dimensions, mast heights, drafts, contacts — and switch between hulls in one tap. Bridge clearances, drafts, and notes follow the active vessel.

08

Weather & routing

Windy marine layer integrated directly into the bridge — wind, wave, and pressure overlays for the Great Lakes, keyed to your departure port and route.

03 / Pricing

One captain. One fair price.

No seat math, no per-vessel multipliers, no annual lock-in. If the season ends and you don't need it, pause for the winter and your data waits.

Try it for 30 days, free, on your next voyage. If it doesn't earn its keep, walk away — your captain's log exports to PDF on the way out.

On the roadmap: voyage briefing flow, cargo & manifest, compliance assist, crew & rotation, company handshake, and offline PWA support.

04 / Questions

Common questions.

How is this different from the Captain's dashboard inside a company account?

Functionally similar bridge — same maps, same weather, same port lookup. The difference is ownership: a company account belongs to your employer, and your access ends when the contract does. Master's Edition belongs to you. Your voyages, your logbook, your settings — all follow you between vessels and between contracts.

Can I sail on a Portis-equipped fleet vessel and still keep Master's Edition?

Yes — and a company handshake feature is on the roadmap. When you take a contract for a fleet that uses Portis, you'll be able to opt into a temporary sync for the duration of that contract. That feature is in development. For now, Master's Edition and any future company account are kept separate.

What vessels can I add?

Anything you sail — owned, chartered, leased, borrowed. Up to three active vessels per account. If you're a relief captain bouncing between boats, contact us and we'll work out a rotation plan.

What about offline? The Lakes have dead spots.

Offline support is on the roadmap. Right now the bridge requires a connection for live data — water levels, NtM feeds, and weather. Your captain's log entries and port notes are stored locally on your device and don't require a connection to read. Full offline voyage briefing download is planned for a future release.

Is my logbook actually mine?

Yes. One-click export to PDF or CSV, anytime — including the day you cancel. Your log entries and port notes are backed up to Portis servers via Supabase, encrypted at rest.

Do you cover salt water?

Right now, no. Portis is built for the Great Lakes — lock windows, ice timing, tributary draft, NOAA / ECCC / USCG and the rhythms of a season that closes in January. Atlantic and Gulf coasts will come, but they're not what we're for today.
